In 2015 Argosy Players were very excited to announce the launch of ACT (Argosy Children’s Theatre ) giving the chance for the younger members of our local community aged 8 – 16 to access theatre in an exciting and inspiring environment led by some of our experienced members, who have worked within schools and youth theatre’s for a number of years. Sessions were held each Thursday evening.
Founder ACT tutors Tom Mackriell and Lissy Balchin laid solid foundations for the group using theatre games and exercises to introduce voice and acting techniques as well as exploring improvisation and stage craft. Members of ACT took on the role of the rats in Argosy’s panto Dick Whittington, and in July of that year took to the stage again in Babe the Sheep Pig, directed by Tom & Lissy.
Stephen King became our tutor from September 2016 to December 2017 directing A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the group in July 2017. Members were also cast in Argosy’s productions of Macbeth, Aladdin, Hounds of the Baskervilles, Goldilocks& the Three Bears and most are currently cast in Argosy’s May 2018 production of Darling Buds of May.
From January 2018 Clare Wooster took the helm and next on the agenda will be our end of year production of Swallows and Amazons. Whilst the main characters are all cast, we always have room for new faces.
